The Story About Church Hill Choral Academy
When I was a teenager, my grandmother, who was also a choirmaster, would send me on various 'assignments' across the city. I would find myself playing the organ at one church service, singing at a wedding at another, or conducting a choir at a different venue. These opportunities allowed me to collaborate with diverse musicians in various settings, providing me with invaluable experience in the field of music.

The Church Hill Choral Academy (CHCA) is designed to offer young musicians similar hands-on experiences, whether or not they intend to pursue a career in music. For young choristers (9-14yo) this is a chance to be exposed to a new and interesting style of music. Based on the Royal School of Music's (RSCM) curriculum 'Voices for Life', the chorister can also earn their chorister ribbons. If they are so determined, they can sit for the official RSCM exam. In addition, there are four stipended positions (one in each choir section) to give actual work experience to choristers between the ages of 14-17. Beyond, anyone of any age (9 through adult) is welcome to join classes at the academy on Sunday mornings at 8am (8am - 9am) to study music. Everyone is then welcome to sing with the St. Mark's choir at the 10:30 service.

For young choristers aged 9 to 14, this is an exciting opportunity to explore and engage with a new and captivating style of music. The program is designed to enrich their musical experience and broaden their understanding of classical and choral traditions.

For older participants, aged 14 to 17, the Church Hill Choral Academy offers four stipended positions, one for each choir section, providing these young musicians with real-world experience and responsibility within a structured musical environment.

For adults interested in beginning or expanding their musical knowledge - these sessions offer an opportunity to study outside of the traditional choral rehearsal.

Additionally, the academy welcomes anyone with an interest in music to join classes on Sunday mornings at 8 AM, followed by the chance to sing with the St. Mark's choir during the 10:30 AM service. This weekly engagement not only fosters a deeper connection to the music but also builds a strong sense of community among the participants.

If interested in the CHCA program, come to St. Mark's Episcopal Church (1040 Chestnut Tree Road, Honey Brook, Pennsylvania 19344 [(610) 942-2365]) at 8am or fill out this form (Click this link).

P.S. Its called Church Hill because we study music at St. Mark's Church which is located in a section of Pennsylvania that was historically refered to as 'Church Hill'!
